Magnesium stearate is a drug used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, and other conditions caused by reduced blood flow to the muscles. It belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE 5) inhibitors. It works by relaxing the muscles and increasing blood flow to the heart, blood vessels, and the lungs. This makes it effective at reducing heart rate, blood pressure, and exercise capacity in people with ischemic heart disease, Raynaud’s syndrome, and other rheumatic symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis. It may also be used to treat other conditions caused by reduced blood flow to the heart.
Softening of the brittle bones can cause pain in the knees and back. It is sometimes used to relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. This drug may also be used to treat other forms of inflammatory arthritis. It may be prescribed for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
